Camping Food and Recipe Preparation

Here are some tips for the preparation of quick recipes.

1.Cheesy Beans

Ingredients:

  • Cheese
  • Beans
  • Oil
Method of preparation:

Cook some pasta, shapes are best, and drain when ready. Return to low heat. Add a tin of baked beans and stir. When hot, add some grated cheddar and stir to melt. Now cheesy beans are ready.

2. Quick Chilli

Ingredients:
  • Beans
  • Tomato
  • Corned Beef
  • Chilli
  • Bread
Method of preparation:

Fry up sliced onion in oil, then add chopped garlic. Throw in your chopped corned beef, tinned tomatoes, and tinned baked beans. Add chilli to desired taste and warm through for 5 minutes or so. Stir well with boiled rice or crusty bread. You can omit the onion and garlic if desired. Enjoy! It's also nice with a bottle of red wine!

3.Choc Chip Custard Dessert

Ingredients:

  • Custard
  • Oil
  • Salt
  • Chilli
Method of preparation:

Use boiling water to make up instant custard - one sachet per two people. Roughly crumble choc chip cookies into the custard - up to half a packet per custard sachet. Stir well and serve up! It's a great treat at the end of a camping meal as the evening chill sets in.

4.Bonkers Bananas

Ingredients:

  • Banana
  • Chocolate
  • Stomach
  • Butter cream
Method of preparation:

Pack chocolate buttons between as much Baileys as you can stomach (or other liqueur of your choice, Tia Maria also nice). Carefully slit the banana (still in the skin) along the inside curve. Push in as many buttons as possible and wrap in foil. Put on the fire or barbecue until the skins go black and the banana is soft. Serve with Baileys and cream.

5.Mandarin Chicken

Ingredients:

  • 4 Boneless Chicken Breasts
  • 1 full Onion
  • 1 full Tomato
  • 2 or 3 Mandarin Oranges
  • Any Favorite Chicken Seasoning
  • 1 Small Bottle Dressing
  • 4 Zip Lock Bags
  • Aluminum Foil
  • Cream
Method of preparation:

Take some pieces of boneless chicken and place them between two pieces of foil and pound them thin to speed up cooking. Next, place a thin slice of onion, a slice of tomato, and four or five sections of mandarin orange in a Zip Lock bag with the boneless chicken. Pour the dressing over it and pinch some juice from the remaining orange. Let it marinate for as long as possible (minimum two days) in the cooler. Place all the contents of the Zip Lock bag into double-thick foil packets. Season with your favorite seasoning and seal it properly. Now the Mandarin Chicken is ready for cooking. At the camping spot, cook the Mandarin Chicken on coals or on the grill for approximately 10 minutes, then turn for an additional 5 minutes.

6.Campfire Cabbage

Ingredients:

  • 2-3 slices bacon
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 head of cabbage
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Garlic powder

Method of preparation:

In a large Dutch oven or frying pan, cook chopped up bacon until almost all the bacon fat is rendered. Add chopped onion and cabbage and stir until the cabbage is wilted. Add enough water to cover. Bring to a boil. Cook until most of the water is gone and the cabbage is cooked to the desired softness. If you need more water, you can add it. Add salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste. Now the Campfire Cabbage is ready.

7.Choco Raspberry Burritos

Ingredients:

  • 4 8-9" flour tortillas
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup fresh raspberries
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Method of preparation:

This is a recipe that even kids can help you prepare. Before getting ready for camping, mix an adequate amount of sugar and cinnamon and store this mixture in a zip-lock bag. Remember to bring it with you while camping. At the campsite, heat the tortillas and cover them in a piece of foil. Grill them over low heat, turning once, for about 5-7 minutes until they are warm and flexible.

Sprinkle one-fourth of a cup of chocolate chips and raspberries in the center of each tortilla, then fold in the sides and roll up like a classic burrito. Brush the rolls with half of the melted butter. Grill the burritos over indirect medium-low heat, turning once, for about three minutes, until they start to show grill marks. The chocolate chips will melt. Remove from heat and brush with the remaining melted butter. Sprinkle with the sugar and cinnamon mixture you prepared at home. Now the Choco Raspberry Burritos are ready. Kids love this kind of dish.
