In 1776, Thomas Stone and 55 others signed the Declaration of Independence. In doing so, Stone risked his home, his family's security, and even his life. Stone supported the Declaration of Independence's promise of freedom. Yet he was also an enslaver, holding many people in bondage at Haberdeventure.

Thomas Stone NHS is open from April to December and is closed in winter. During the spring and summer, Thomas Stone NHS is open Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and is closed on weekdays.
Thomas Stone National Historic Site experiences all four seasons. Temperatures can be very warm and humid in the summer months and wet and rainy in the winter months.
